I went to a dinner party not too long ago and the host served the most amazing bliss balls. I begged her for the recipe and the hostess was gracious enough to provide it to me. To make them even more functional, I added the magick of lions mane. Lions mane ( Hericium erinaceus) has soothing and nourishing actions in the digestive and nervous system.
It is highly regarded in China and Japan as both a food and a traditional medicine. In recent years its nervous system actions have made it the darling of the mushroom world. Research shows it may enhance the bodys own production of Nerve Growth Factor ( NGF). NGF stimulates the development, growth and repair of nerve cells both within and outside of the central nervous system. What could this mean in real life terms? Well, at a most basic level, enhanced levels may help maintain a healthy nervous system, at a more complex level. enhancing NGF production may have a role to play in the repair of nervous tissue damaged by age, trauma and disease.
There is actually less evidence to suggest that lions mane enhances cognition in healthy adults, which I am certain most people take it for but there is but plenty of anecdotal evidence to back that up! These make a lovely afternoon pick me up.
